K-Block for Kids

From Wednesday, 20 May 2020, our children and young people will receive care in two beautiful new wards in K-Block.

These wards have been designed with patients and families as the priority; ensuring their needs are recognised and respected.

The wards include a playroom, secure outdoor gardens, inpatient school, and waiting areas for families including a family lounge.

Kids receiving care at the RHH even helped design the new wards.

They are friendly, fun and calming spaces essential for the health and wellbeing of our kids.

An Antarctic-theme features throughout the wards from the soothing light installation in the public lobby in the colours of the southern lights to the whales, penguins and ice-shelf motifs on patient bedheads.

Level 6 East (K6E) is a 30-bed children’s unit for babies and children and Level 6 West (K6W) is a 19-bed capacity unit for young people.

K6W also includes a new Transition to Home Unit available to a baby or child admitted to the RHH who no longer need an acute care bed but who would benefit from additional support before they go home.

The foyer design was funded thanks to the efforts of Give Me 5 For Kids.
